19 Month Checkup

His measurements are identical to mine when i was 19 months! 34in tall and 29lbs. He's in the 90% for height and 75% for weight. The doctor was impressed with pretty much everything, especially his vocabulary and temperment (toot toot) and said that he was developmentally at a 2 year old level.

Jack is putting 2 and 3 words together to make mini sentences (yesterday was "Binkie's being silly"). He can count to 10ish, say some of the alphabet and can identify some colors and shapes.

Jack has a new pet, Melgar the turtle. He LOVES him! (no he doesn't touch him and Josh and I wash our hands when we do).

His new favorite song is Be Bop a Lula by Gene Vincent. He sings along and will sing the 'baby' part when i point to him.

He goes to bed or for a nap without any residence at all. We can put him right down in his bed without any problems... if we (I) wanted to, but i really enjoy the bedtime cuddles.

He LOVES LOVES LOVES garlic humus and likes raw onions.

He hasn't had a hair cut yet and i don't know when he will. I'm loving his lovely locks. His eyes are hazel. In the sun he has a mustache. He still has his ear tab.

He loves being naked. Whenever he has clothes on he tugs at them and says 'off' until i take them off. When he just has a diaper off he tugs at that too saying 'diaper off'. I can usually get away with him running around naked for about 1/2 hour without any accidents.

He recognizes happy and sad faces. He can make many animal sounds, including owl, eagle and grackle (he loves birds).

I've started seriously toddler proofing the house because he's getting into everything!! He's also starting to get an attitude when he's not impressed with something. I'm not looking to the terrible twos.

The doctor said that he's such a loving, smart and happy boy because his parents and other care takers are so patient and loving with him. "He's a very lucky little boy and I give you all an A++!"

Poop

Lately, Jack has been letting us know when he has to poop. It first started with him telling us when he was pooping but now he gives us a warning. Because of this I got him a little potty and sat it next to the toilet in the bathroom, just so he could get used to it. I explained to him that that's where poop and pee pee go, so now when he sees it he'll point and say either 'poop' or 'pee pee'. Last week he told me he had to poop so I asked him if he'd like to poop on his toilet, he said yes! I took his diaper off and told him to sit on the toilet, he said no. Fearing that he'd poop on the floor I put his diaper back on. With his diaper on, he sat on his toilet and pooped. He has done this two more times since. He always tells me when he has to poop, each time I'll ask him if he wants to poop on the toilet, sometimes it's yes, sometimes no. But I couldn't be more excited that he's becoming more aware of his body and is really starting to put things together.

Jack says...

Previously when Jack would fall or get hurt he would stay down and whimper a little bit until you told him he was okay and would help him up or kiss his booboo. Now it's:
(Jack falls and while on the ground) "Okay?"
Mama: "You're okay!"
Jack: "OKAY!"

When he wants to go into a different room in the house he points to the room and says, "In there?" Whenever he wants to go somewhere or in something (like his tent or tunnel he'll ask the same thing.)

Because he knows when he's pooping/has to poop (he'll yell 'POOP!') I made sure that I got a little toilet to have on hand. It's just sitting in the bathroom next to the normal toilet so when I use mine, Jack will come in and sit on his. I ask him, "what goes in there? (pointing to this toilet)" He says, "poop!" and/or "pee!"

He loves brushing his teeth, he will point at his teeth, a toothbrush or toothpaste and say "brush".

He loves taking a bath. He will run into the bathroom and say, "bathtub bathtub BATHTUB!" and when he really wants to get in he starts taking off his clothes.

He's starting saying, "chill". When he gets all worked up over nothing I'll tell him to chill out and he'll respond with a head nod and "chill".

He really enjoys pretending to feed his animal toys. He will up either fake or real food to their mouth and make pretend chewing noises... it's sooooo cute!

Sometimes he will pull a washcloth out of the closet and 'washes' his belly, penis and bum with it. He's fully clothes of course, but very cool.

Josh was given ice cube trays for Christmas. Jack found them in one of the bags brought from my parents house, opened the freezer and put them in... that blew my mind.

I recently made a list and he knows at least 80 words. I know there's more but I can't think of them. He can also form rudimentary sentences so we're really able to communicate, I find that incredible.

Bully

All that time wrestling with Patrick really paid off. Jack had a play date with a two year old pal and beat the crap out of him (not really, Jack just tried to wrestle and this kida had no idea what was going on.)

They Really are Friends

This was after the wrestling match.
